The free family event, organised by Coleraine Connect, transformed the town event space into an adrenaline-fuelled arena as professional BMX and scooter riders thrilled audiences with breathtaking jumps, flips and tricks on a purpose-built half-pipe.

Crowds gathered throughout the day for four action-packed performances, expertly hosted by MC Matt Gillespie, whose energy and interaction with the audience helped create a fantastic atmosphere.

Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, live singers performed throughout the town centre, creating a lively backdrop that encouraged visitors to spend more time shopping, dining and exploring Coleraine.

The success of the event was also reflected in the positive feedback received from town centre businesses. A number of traders reported increased footfall through their shops, along with higher sales on the day, as locals and visitors spent time shopping, dining and exploring Coleraine between the Thunder Action Sports performances. The staggered show schedule encouraged people to remain in the town centre for longer, benefiting businesses throughout the day.

Gillian Anderson, Events and Communications Manager at Coleraine Connect, said: “Thunder Action Sports was everything we hoped it would be. The riders were exceptional, the crowds were fantastic and the atmosphere throughout the town was incredible from start to finish.

“We're delighted that official footfall reached 50,859, demonstrating the appeal of high-quality, free events in bringing people into Coleraine. One of our key aims is to create events that not only provide a great day out for families but also encourage visitors to support our fantastic local businesses, and Saturday certainly achieved that.”

Coleraine Connect will now turn its attention to its next major event, Jurassic Day, taking place on Saturday, 15 August, when giant dinosaurs will roam the town alongside the Q Radio Roadshow, free family entertainment, music, face painting and much more.
