There’ll be more than bricks building something special in Coleraine this October, as the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Dawn Huggins, takes on a very personal fundraising challenge during The Great Coleraine Build.

On Saturday 17 October, the first day of the massive National Brick Events weekend in Coleraine town centre, the Mayor will take to a static bike outside Coleraine Town Hall to raise funds for Northern Ireland Chest, Heart & Stroke, and she’s inviting the community to get involved.

The sponsored cycle will run from 10am until 4pm, with members of the public and Council staff invited to book a 15-minute slot, get on the bike and help support a charity which is particularly close to the Mayor’s heart.

A cause with a very personal meaning

The event marks National Stroke Day and will raise funds for Northern Ireland Chest, Heart & Stroke, one of the Mayor’s chosen charities during her term in office.

For Councillor Huggins, however, the cause has a much deeper personal significance following the loss of her mum to a severe stroke.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Dawn Huggins, said: “Having lost my mum to a severe stroke, Northern Ireland Chest, Heart & Stroke is a charity that means a great deal to me personally.

“I’ve seen first-hand the impact a stroke can have on a family, and the importance of having the right support there when people need it most.

“I’m delighted to be supporting the charity during my term as Mayor, and I hope people will come along and join me for this fundraising event.

“You only need to give 15 minutes of your time. Whether you’re a regular cyclist or simply want to support a great cause, I’d love to see you there and help us make a real difference together.”

A huge weekend for Coleraine

The charity cycle will add another special element to what is already set to be one of the biggest weekends of Coleraine Connect’s Great Coleraine Build.

Saturday 17 October marks the opening day of the National Brick Events weekend, bringing a huge celebration of LEGO® and brick building to Coleraine town centre across three venues on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October.

It will be the first National Brick Events show of its kind in Northern Ireland bringing thousands of visitors into the heart of Coleraine.

With families coming into town for the event, Coleraine Connect is delighted that the Mayor’s sponsored cycle will be taking place right at the centre of the action and giving visitors another opportunity to get involved in something very worthwhile.
